Age of Conan: Unchained review

Age of Conan: Unchained is one of the most popular free MMORPG created by Funcom. In Age of Conan, we enter brutal world of Hyboria with thousands of friends and enemies to live, fight, and explore the grim world of King Conan.

Enter the dark world…
Age of Conan: Unchained was relaunched as a free to play title allowing players to freely travel across the Hyboria either as free players or premium subscribers with access to additional content. Originally released as a retail game, but after some trouble with subscriptions, Funcom decided to transform this MMORPG into freemium game.

Game is very dark. Brutal, barbaric and sexy, so it’s only for mature players with an “M” rating from the ESRB. Original books about adventures of Conan are also very grim and bloody – author Robert E. Howard really knew how to write that kind of literature. Age of Conan: Unchained allows an unprecedented level of control over your character. All 12 classes include amazing classes, from absolutely new ones like the Bear Shaman and Herald of Xotli to classics like the Ranger and Assassin. The classes are set up across 4 archetypes: Mages, Rogues, Priests, and Soldiers, however and unfortunately, only the 4 classes (Demonologist, Priest of Mitra, Guardian and Barbarian) are available for all free players.

Game combat system lets us take an amazing, active role in combat – we actually control every swing of weapon! We can block all incoming attacks using our shield or evade any enemy blow! Age of Conan also features a robust system for mounted combat, allowing us to charge on our enemies whit deadly war rhinos, or little bit less amazing horses…maybe you want to ride a mammoth?! It’s available for any brave adventurer!

In Age of Conan, all free players can only make 2 characters, while premium ones get 8 character slots. Returning players get to keep the number of character slots they already had. Funcom is also introducing an in-game store to the game where free players and premium subscribers can obtain additional content such as exceptonal weaponry and powerful mounts. Some of the instanced dungeon content are absolutly free, and other will be available through new passes or expansion purchases. All free players may access the beginnings of raids and the raid equipment ladder, but they can’t complete tier 1 without buying premium access or purchasing entry to more raids. If we are talking about visuals, Age of Conan is one of the best looking free to play game available! Of course, you need more powerful computer to play, but it’s really worth to try it on high end settings. Music is another strong side of the game – whole soundtrack is amazing and dark.

Summary
This MMORPG doesn’t really look like much when you first see it, but once you play it you’re in for a surprise. An amazing combat system, fun character progression, and quality quest progression makes this a fun game to play even if you don’t usually play MMO games. Age of Conan: Unchained have fantastic combat system in which skill decides the outcome of all battles and not if I was able to do 10 hours of raiding on the weekend. It definitely must-play!
